We are getting information from Pets In Spain volunteers in the North Valencia region informing us of their current predicament and difficulties. Their houses and animal pens are filled with dirty water, the stored food for the animals, the firewood for their fires, all sodden and unusable, the temperature is just 15°.

Trees have fallen onto their animal pens, they have no electricity or internet, no clean water supply, they have to go to their cars to recharge their phones from the car battery just to communicate with the outside world. There is no internet, bank ATM’s not working. Cars are overturned, supermarkets are closed. Volunteers looking after cat colonies are also reporting great difficulties, many cats survived by climbing trees but their cat houses and enclosures have been destroyed. Some cats are missing and some injured.

We are organising supplies and transport, however, the best way for you to help is to please donate to our inundation relief fund that we have set up today so that we have funds immediately available to buy much needed supplies, cover veterinary costs, repair and heating equipment, provisions and cleaning materials.

The Pets In Spain animal charity has organised an outdoor charity event for the first time in two years and is appealing to home bakers to make and donate cakes and pasties for their Easter Fair.

During the lockdown and the subsequent Covid restrictions period the charity volunteers have continued to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals despite a drastic reduction in income during the pandemic. The charity would love to see supporters, animal adopters, foster carers, and readers of this article come along and enjoy the Easter Fair on Saturday 16th April, from 11 am to 2 pm at the charity shop located at Francisco de Quevedo, 8, Urb La Marina ( Consum square lower level).

There will be different types of arts & craft stalls, Tombolas, Raffle, pastries, cakes and hot coffee and everything in the charity shops will be at half the ticket price.

You can call or WhatsApp Pets In Spain on 645469253, or email: info@petsinspain.com.

BREXIT Animal Travel Update for 2021

UK and EU Pet Travel after Brexit

From 2300 GMT on 31/12/20 any pet travelling to the EU from the UK will need to be issued with an ‘Animal Health Certificate’ (AHC) by your vet.

The vital things to know about the AHC is that they are ONLY valid for:

  • 10 days after the date of issue for entry into the EU – i.e. they cannot be issued to you more than 10 days before you travel
  • A single trip for entry to the EU – they cannot be reused
  • Onward travel within the EU for 4 months after the date of issue
  • Re-entry to GB for 4 months after the date of issue.

Unfortunately, veterinary surgeons are not permitted to issue any AHCs until after 22/12/2020.

These AHC are issued as bilingual documents; you will only be able to enter the EU if you hold the correct document for the country you first arrive in. Thus pet owners cannot change their country entry point into the EU once the AHC is completed, otherwise, a new AHC would need to be issued.

In addition, as these are large 10-page documents that will require a considerable time to complete, and can only be filled by certified veterinary surgeons, it is likely all veterinary practices will be very limited in the number that can be completed prior to 01/01/2021.

This means there may be delays in the issuing of such documents by veterinary practices, and we thank our clients in advance for their patience with this process at this extremely challenging time.

Finally, it should be noted that animals younger than 12 weeks of age are no longer permitted to be exported, and that travel is not permitted until 21 days after Rabies vaccination.

In October Margaret Brennan will walk the 780km pilgrimage route to raise awareness and funds for Pets In Spain animal rescue charity.

The Camino de Santiago route for Margaret will start in France and end at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, northwest Spain. Margaret’s adopted rescue dog Lindy will accompany her on this mammoth hike, for most of the route following close behind in the camper van driven by her husband Bob.

It will take an estimated 31 days for Margaret to walk the complete route.

Pets In Spain is a legally registered animal rescue and welfare charity in Spain operated entirely by volunteers. They do not receive funding from any local or regional government and funds are needed now to help them continue to rescue and rehabilitate animals in desperate and sometimes life-threatening situations.

You can help by sponsoring Margaret and spur her on to complete the Camino de Santiago walk. This can be done with a one-off donation by Paypal of 5-10 Euros to: info@petsinspain.com and please state ‘Walk Margaret’, or by bank transfer to the charity’s Pets In Spain bank account IBAN number ES14 0081 0687 7700 0168 1672.

Another way is to visit either one of the two Pets In Spain charity shops in La Marina urbanisation where sponsor forms will be available to add your support for Margaret and the charity.

Telephone and Whatsapp number is 645 469 253.

Raising Money To Help The Puppy Farm Mother’s

The Pets In Spain animal charity has organised Easter Fayre events at both charity shops on Easter Saturday with an invitation for people to meet recently rescued mothers from a ruthless puppy farm breeder.

In recent months, and in collaboration with other animalista groups in Spain, they have rescued 70 puppy farm mothers and fathers. Tallulah is one of them, a Shih-Tzu with an old untreated injury, a broken jaw. She must have endured constant pain even while mothering her puppies, all of which were sold by the ruthless breeder whose only interest was the thousands of Euros raked in from sales.

Like all the others, Tallulah, age 4 years, was restrained in a filthy faeces covered cage and used purely as a puppy making machine. She needs three more surgical procedures on her jaw, also on her mammaries and sterilisation.
Four adult chihuahua mothers, each just 2/3 kilos, have multiple scars from previous caesarian births.

One of them is Oreo, and the reason for her health problems was revealed when the vets at the animal hospital in Guardamar operated on her last week. They discovered that during a previous caesarian procedure by person or persons unknown to extract puppies, her bladder, bowel and uterus were displaced causing twisted tubes, blockages and blood loss to her vital organs. At the animal hospital Oreo’s internal organs were realigned successfully and she has been sterilised.

All the rescued puppy farm dogs needed veterinary treatment and some of them have since been adopted, the others, including Tallulah and Oreo, are in caring foster homes and still under veterinary supervision funded by the charity.

The date for your diary to go along to show your support for the work the charity does and meet rescued puppy farm dogs at the Easter Fayre is Saturday March 31st at the Pets In Spain charity shop situated next door to the Hogs Head bar and grill, calle Francisco de Quevedo, urbanisation La Marina. Please take any items or other donations for the charity to use to raise funds. You can contact the charity on 645469253, or email info@petsinspain.com

Puppy Farm Breeders Have Just Three Priorities…..Money, Money, Money!

Many of these puppy farm businesses are hidden away in areas far from public view and criticism. A friend of the charity, a volunteer, patiently gained the trust of a ruthless breeder that had 100 dogs at their very private installation.

Subsequently he persuaded them take let him take away the most physically and mentally damaged mothers and fathers that have been kept in cages for years. In the past few months 70 of these used and abused puppy farm dogs were rescued and taken in by the Pets In Spain animal charity and other animalista groups that they collaborate with.

Last week the charity accepted into their care two more, a 5 year old Bichon Maltese with no eyes, and on the same day Shih Tzu mother with a violent traumatic injury, a fractured bottom jaw, believed to have been inflicted on her approx 2 years ago. Despite their suffering both were forcibly bred to create puppies to sell.

The rescued dogs are now being provided with the very best veterinary treatment paid for by Pets In Spain with their rehabilitation and socialisation being managed in volunteer foster homes. They now have names, Tabitha and Tallulah.

Pets In Spain animal charity has an ongoing campaign to rescue more long suffering puppy farm mothers and fathers and are appealing for sponsors and donations to help them with the mounting veterinary bills…

Pets In Spain animal charity has rescued 3 more puppy farm mothers from an illegal puppy mill. Making a total of 16 recently rescued.

These dogs were made to endure a life of just pregnancy and puppies they were kept in cages in a filthy outdoor shed all of there lives and forcibly impregnated every six months to produce puppies to sell. Now aged 5-7 years they were to be discarded due to ill health and taken to a killing station.

Pets In Spain animal charity collaborates with animalista groups in Spain to free the puppy mill used and abused mothers and fathers and take them into foster homes. Provide them with all necessary veterinary treatment, care and rehabilitation.

One of these mothers has tumours in her mammary glands, this occurs frequently in un-spayed female dogs, another has proved positive for Leishmaniasis. When they are well enough all three need surgery which will include their sterilization. An appeal for donations to help the charity fund veterinary treatment for rescued puppy farm dogs has been launched. Pets In Spain is a registered charity in Spain run entirely by volunteers. They do not receive any local or regional government funding.
